Am 20. August 1898 nahm die Gornergrat Bahn ihren Betrieb auf. Die Zahnradbahn verbindet das Dorf Zermatt (1605m) mit dem Gornergrat (3089m). The Gornergrat Bahn started operating on August 20, 1898. The cogwheel railroad connects the village of Zermatt (1605m) with the Gornergrat (3089m). The picture shows a 180 degree panoramic view of the route between the Riffelalp and Riffelberg stations. Here the line is double-tracked and allows trains traveling up and down the mountain to cross, as can be seen in the picture.
